My name is Nikolas and I'm fourteen years old. I hold a school notebook in my hands and I try to find the beginning, the first words, to write Bilbo's story. I wonder if I will succeed. Deep down, it's the story of my life. And I need to write it. To share it with you. And I can't hold it anymore, I want to start. To say quickly what I need, what is necessary to get there. There, deep in the heart of events, there, in the heart of the world. Because maybe, there is this big heart that its beats are shared between all creatures. Maybe we are all united with the beating of this great heart of the world. And so, I begin.

A tender and true story. A story that came into my life unexpectedly and opened luminous paths for my adolescent hero and myself as well, so that I too would search for the miracle and the magic behind some unexpected events. I let little Nicholas tell the story himself, just as he experienced it with Bilbo or Midnighter, the wondrous little puppy he found crying on a winter night.
