After m.l.p.'s meeting with American writer Steven Pressfield, he asked her permission to promote her book “Byzantium, The Fall” to the publishing market of the United States. He had read the novel in it's english edition published at that time by TerzoBooks.
Below is a sample of his letter:
“
Dear Editor
Will you permit me to champion a book you’ve never heard of?
It’s Maria Lampadaridou Pothou’s “Byzantium, The Fall”.
Maria is a national literary treasure of Greece, and her book is a masterpiece. In the States we know practically nothing of the fall of the Byzantine Empire, but its characters and tragedy, I’m afraid, are being mirrored more and more by events in the world today.
“Byzantium, The Fall” is an epic both in scale and depth. Its style is NOT American; it is definitely a European book. But, you know, foreign authors – Japanese, Italian, South and Central American – have found passionate following in the States once their work has been exposed. Why not the same for this extraordinary Greek?
Thank you very much for your consideration.
Steven Pressfield
Author of “Gates of Fire”, “Tides of War”, and upcoming “Virtues of War”, a novel of Alexander the Great.
